New to Rinkit this month are the beautiful Coconut Bowls coming in 3 different sizes and with a gorgeous wooden spoon!
Coconut Bowls, made from coconuts themselves are an incredible natural material that is wonderfully sustainable and eco-friendly. A small way to help our planet and look super cute at the same time!
Sourced from the trees of Vietnam, these coconut bowls go through a short process to be where they are sold today. First they are picked and transported to a sorting facility where the meat and milk is harvested, mainly for beauty products in this day and age. Once this is done, the shells must be sorted based on size, thickness and of course colour. The inside of the coconut is then scraped to get rid of any remaining meat and the outside husk is pulled off and sanded down.
To give you some ideas and some inspiration about what foods you could have in your coconut bowls, i’ve written out 4 amazing recipes that won’t disappoint.
1.Greens
For the really healthy people, we have the Green Smoothie -
In a blender, mix the following ingredients
1 Kiwi
1 Cup Spinach
½ Banana
¼ Cup Frozen Mango
¼ Cup Frozen Pineapple
1 tbsp Honey
1 tsp China Seeds
½ Avocado
½ Cup Apple Juice
When it comes to toppings you could have whatever you fancy. We love some more kiwi, chia seeds and desiccated coconut to finish off the coconut bowl theme!
2. Buddha Bowls
For the healthy but savoury fans, this ones for you! The coconut bowl is ideal for a Buddha Bowl, Named for its big, round Buddha belly shape, a “Buddha bowl” can mean different things to different people, but let's define it here as a one-dish meal consisting of rice or whole grains, roasted veggies, a dressing and protein (by way of beans, tofu, lentils, or in some cases meat or fish).. One of our favourites and and an easy simple recipe for this includes the below ingredients -
Couscous
Spinach
Tomatoes
Cucumber
Chickpeas (fried with paprika, cumin and thai seasoning)
Hummus
Shredded Carrot
(Dressing of choice)
Of course, feel free to add some meat/fish or whatever you prefer as well. These types of salad bowls are so fun because you can mix it up and try different things each time.
3. Acai Bowls
Next up we have a favourite of mine, the very popular and trendy Acai Bowl. In the early 1970's, frozen acai berry pulp began to travel from the Amazon to northern Brazilian cities. In the 80's, it was legendary Brazilian Jujitsu founder Carlos Gracie who likely popularized the acai bowl (frozen acai pulp blended with banana) in southern cities like Rio de Janiero. It then grew in popularity around the world as a super summery breakfast bowl that is healthy and nutritious but tastes super yummy.
We found our favourite easy recipe for a hearty quick breakfast that will fill you up and keep you satisfied for longer. In a blender you will need:
2 Cups Frozen Mango
2 Cups Frozen Stawberries
2 Cups Frozen Blueberries
80ml of Almond milk / Favourite Milk
Toppings:
Banana
Blueberries
Coconut
Strawberries
The coconut bowl is perfect for this acai bowl as it keeps the contents cool but doesn’t make your hand feel cold while holding it. It also matches perfectly with the aesthetic of the acai.
4. Snacks
Finally you could use it for a snack bowl. The depth of these bowls means you can store a lot of contents which means lots of snacks! This could be crips, nuts, fruits or even a collection of spring or sausage rolls!
Not only have we written out all the ingredients for you but we have also put together some videos for you to follow along with and see what the final product looks like.
